Lariks hout of Larixhout
Characteristic for the larch coniferous tree is that the needles fall off in winter. Native larch wood is available as round timber or beams in lengths of up to 10 metres, with diameters varying from 60 to 350 mm. Larch wood or Larix wood is a resinous type of wood, this must be taken into account when processing the wood. When working with wet larch wood, resin can stick to saws or chisels, making the job more difficult.
The heartwood of Larch shows color variations from light tan, tan, pinkish to reddish brown. The sapwood is clearly distinguishable from the heartwood and is yellowish to off-white in colour. Larch wood forms heartwood at an early age, so that the width of the sapwood in mature trees usually does not exceed 20 mm. The appearance and technical properties of larch wood, which come from different geographical areas, differ so little that they are indistinguishable from each other due to the similar structure and colour. Because the quality is somewhat dependent on the origin, this must be taken into account when using larch wood.
