Pine wood

Pinewood is a well-known and common type of softwood, that can be used for many different adaptations. The trees can reach heights up to 30 meters, maximum 40 meters. The straight, cylindrical root free trunk is around 20 meters long and has a diameter of around 0.6 - 0.9 meters, sometimes even up to 1.2 meters. The colour of the fresh core wood is light brown. After some time, the wood becomes darker and varies from yellowish brown to reddish brown, which is very different from the 5 - 100 mm wide sapwood that is white to light yellow of colour. Pinewood is resinous. Sometimes, the resin lines can be seen as really thin stripes. Freshly sawn or planed pinewood spreads a nice smell of resin or turpentine.

Pinewood, usage depends on the quality

You can find pinewood in the constructions, inner frames, windows, doors, inner and outer boardings and beam wood. In hydraulic engineering it is also commonly adapted as landing decks, post wood, sheet piles and purlins. For which adaptations pinewood is suited, mostly depends on the quality of the wood. European pinewood is, with both hands as well as machines, pretty easy to adapt. Especially the growth ring's width, its size and the amount of knots have a big influence on its adaptability. For finishing the wood surface, pinewood suits very well. The wood can be adapted with nearly every tool, except some tools with which the film formation can be hindered, due to the present resin.
